Having just published my own book THE RUSSIAN MOOD which consists of poetry translations of 19th and 20th century Russian poets, I was most interested in reading Vladimir Kosmin's book RUSSIAN SOUL. This is an English translation of poems by a modern Russian poet. If one were to describe these poems in musical terms, I would call them definitely a verismo style rather than belcanto. These are not joyous poems with feel good endings. Rather they depict the raw and harsh realities of life not just for the Russian people throughout the ages but also for mankind in general.These poems are short and terse and some hit the reader like a sledge-hammer. They are not meant to be an easy read although they can be read in several minutes. They do need to be read repeatedly in order to be absorbed.
In short, Vladimir Kosmin has done an excellent job in conveying to his English readers the raw realities of life through his poetry. I would strongly recommend this book!

After reading Vladimir Kosmin's Russian Soul in English, I had to read it again. I have never read anything as emotional as this book of poems. I started to cry. Live each moment to the fullest. LLL

I really enjoyed reading this book of poetry from the author. He truly expresses his heart and captured my interest and emotions as well. He is an artist from the heart and taps into some deep feelings from within his soul and stirs up questions about life and death. I recommend reading this book of poetry.
